Daniel Rodriguez

One of our proudest moments at Brookfield-Knights was bringing the hip and happening transcendental folk band Elephant Revival over to play some dates on this side of the Atlantic. At that time they were our favourite band, and when they appeared at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections, overnight they became the talk of the town.

BBC filmed them as they entranced the crowd at the CCA in Sauchiehall Street, and they went on to sell out the city’s Old Fruitmarket. The subsequent crackle and zing on the hotly-charged grapevine meant that demand from promoters and festival organisers became intense.

We were shattered when, within a year, the band announced that individual members had agreed to put things on hold as they wanted to pursue various solo projects and collaborations.

Founder Daniel Rodriguez, both as a writer and performer, had for many become the voice of the band. We wondered what he would do; we should have known it would be something equally stunning and important.

His creative output has been amazing and the quality of his work, simply outstanding. Late in 2020, Daniel released his debut album, Sojourn of a Burning Sun. We loved it.

In recent months he has been on the road in America with a very tight and tidy little pared-back trio, and they’ve been making great music wherever they go.

Now, there are plans to bring the unit over to the UK for a run of dates in the last quarter of 2023, to our absolute delight.
